Melissa: Simplifying Senior Moves and Living Transitions
While working in the senior living industry for over 20 years, I saw too many residents move in with very few personal belongings, worried about what will happen to their things at home, and never really feeling fully settled or connected to the community.
In late 2021, the senior living organization I worked for sold their southern properties, right at the time my father passed away unexpectedly. A few months later, my mother had an incident that required hospitalization and rehab.
I felt utterly OVERWHELMED by the notion that my mother may not be able to return home and what would need to be done to move her and prepare her home for sale. My mother was even more overwhelmed with the idea of planning a move and the physical tasks involved, and we were both still grieving my father’s passing.
I decided then that my new mission in life would be two-fold:
To ease this burden for family members
To help older adult clients prepare for their eventual move
